G. Jay Neilan, 60, passed away comfortably at his home in Jacksonville, FL on August 6, 2018, after a brief but spirited struggle with cancer.
A quiet and confident man, G. Jay was born in Benkelman, NE and grew up in Roeland Park, KS. He graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1976, excelling in basketball, football and baseball. He attended college on a baseball scholarship, graduating from Emporia State University with a degree in Business Administration.
His lifetime profession was managing a series of automobile dealerships throughout Florida and most recently in Las Cruces, NM. He supported a wide range of charitable endeavors and championed the Jacksonville Jaguars and Kansas City Chiefs.
Surviving G. Jay is his wife, Mary; sons, Gary and Jordan; and daughter, Mary Grace.
He is also survived by his parents, Gary Neilan of Las Cruces, NM and Charlotte Martin of Anacortes, WA; siblings, Scott Neilan (Melody) of Shawnee, KS and Nancy Neilan Schafer (Dennis) of Anacortes,WA; stepsister, Terri Pennoni (Tom) of Mooresville, NC; and nephews, Austin Schafer, Alex Neilan and Kyle Neilan. We will all mourn his loss.
At G. Jay's request, there will be no formal services. Family and friends are gathering informally at several locations to celebrate his life and honor his memory.
