Ernest “Jim” Barnard went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, after a short battle with cancer and complications due to infection.
He is preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Wanda Barnard, who just this past May 2019 went to be with the Lord after an 11-year battle with breast cancer, and also preceded in death by his son Michael, 40, and sister Susan Bailey.
Jim leaves behind his loving daughter Wendy Griner, 44, and his grandchildren whom he adored more than anything, Brooke Nootens, 14, Logan Griner, 8, and Chloe Griner, 5, all of St. Johns, FL; as well as a brother, Barry Barnard (Pam), sisters Janet Miller (Rob), Nancy Hensley (Michael), and many nieces and nephews.
He was raised in Johnson City, TN and went to ETSU University High School. An honors graduate of UT he was President of SAE Fraternity. He was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War and served overseas in Hamburg, Germany.
Jim spent most of his career working for Leon County School Board as a Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist. Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, whose lives he impacted over the years. He was known for his giant smile, long conversations, and a heart for service. This was especially evident in his career working with young eleventh and twelfth graders from the surrounding high schools. He also served on the board of directors for the YMCA, as well as Epiphany Lutheran Church Council and Elders Board.
A celebration of Jim’s Life and Faith with reception to follow will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 8300 Deerlake Road, 32312.
Flowers or contributions may be sent directly to the church and coordinated by calling Cindy Haffner 850-385-7373
