Eleanor Ysseldyke was born February 17,1936 in Columbus, Ohio to Kenneth and Goldie Davidson. Ellie graduated from Central High School and soon after, became a professional ice skater with Holiday on Ice. Ellie reconnected with Don Ysseldyke, with whom she had gone to school with, after leaving the ice show. They married in 1964 and had two children, Ken (“Dutch”) and Lauri. Ellie was a devoted wife and mother. She sang in a women’s entertainment group, Singing Moms, acted in Gahanna Community Theater, sang in the choir at Stoneybrook United Methodist Church, and enjoyed drawing and painting. Ellie and Don relocated to Tampa, Florida after Don’s retirement from the Columbus Police Department. Ellie was a dedicated grandmother to twins, Meghan and Molly, and Addison, taking them to school, vacationing with them at the beach, making all their Halloween costumes, and supporting them at all their ballet performances.
Ellie will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and engaging personality. Life was a stage and she loved to perform, whether if be singing, acting or ice skating. She and Don shared an epic love story.
Ellie is survived by her husband of 58 years, Don, son Ken (Kathy), daughter Lauri (James), 3 grandchildren – Meghan, Molly and Addison; brother Sandy. A Celebration of Life will be held 3:00 on July 9 th at 2959 McCrone Way, Jacksonville. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ellie’s memory can be made to Meals on Wings .
