Edgar H. Gambill, 94, passed away February 11 at his home. Born on August 30, 1929, in Cromona, KY as one of nine children, he had lived in Jacksonville since 1987 where he retired with CSX Transportation in 1989 after 38 years of service.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Evelyn, and grandson Cory Bertrand. Ed served in the Army in Korea. He was an active member of St Joseph’s Catholic church where he volunteered in their Food Bank and Meals on Wheels ministries for more than 20 years. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, golfing, and watching sports, especially the Kentucky Wildcats. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Ed is survived by his brother, Jerry, of Louisville, KY, daughters Karen (Patrick) McKinney of Vero Beach, FL, Susan (Marc) Bertrand of Winchester, TN, sons Jeffrey Gambill of Ft Myers, FL, and Gary (Lara) Gambill of Jacksonville, FL. Other survivors include grandchildren Ryan Perry, Blayne, Jeremy, & Jessica Bertrand, Ashton, Megan, and Jayden Gambill, and great grandchildren Carson & Hudson Perry.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on February 23 at 10:00am in the Old St Joseph Church. Reception to follow at the St. Joseph Auditorium after the service.
