Dorothy Melanie Garretson

Dorothy Melanie Holton Garretson, age 57, passed on to be with our Lord Jesus Christ, February 09, 2022, in Orange Park, Florida.  Melanie was born December 15, 1964 in Gainesville, Florida, to Joseph N. and Dorothy L Holton.

Melanie is a fifth generation Floridian who grew up in Gainesville. She is the youngest of four children all who attended P.K. Yonge Developmental School. Melanie also attended Oak Hall Private School and Sante Fe Community College. Along with her family Melanie loved spending time on the east coast of Florida at Crescent Beach/St Augustine or the west coast of Florida, fishing in Cedar Key. She was also a member of First Baptist Church where she sang in the youth choir.

Melanie eventually moved to Orange Park Florida with her three children Sam, Tyler and Chelsea. She worked as a licensed cosmetologist specializing in hair replacement. She devoted herself to raising her children and continued to enjoy the beach, playing the drums, cooking and tending her plants in the yard.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy Rose Lanier and Joseph Nimmo Holton.

Melanie is survived by her Sons Samuel J. Garretson and Tyler A. Garretson; her daughter Chelsea Summer Black; her grandson Jasper Garretson; siblings David J Holton (Colette), Daniel L Holton (De Ann) and Priscilla H. Howick (Bradford).  Her nieces and nephews: Jessica Tipler (Andrew), Heidi Holton, Jordan Howick, Peyton Howick, Bradford Howick II, Stephanie Howick; and her grandniece Annabel Tipler.

Honoring the wishes of the family a private service will be held at a later date. We thank you for your prayers and remembering us during this difficult time.
