Donald A. “Don” King Jr. passed peacefully in the early morning of December 28, at Community Hospice at Baptist South Hospital, Jacksonville, FL with his wife by his side. He was 72 years young.
Born in Philadelphia in 1952, his family relocated to Washington Township, NJ when Don was 7. He is a 1970 Graduate of Washington Twp. High School and a 1983 graduate of Gloucester County College. He received his BA & Masters in Public Administration from Troy State University.
Don proudly served the US Navy 4 years Active Duty and 37 years Naval Reserve.
Don started his career in Federal Service at the Philadelphia Navy Yard in 1980. Over the course of 45+ years, his civilian career enabled him to work in Naples, Italy and his beloved GTMO where he and his family enjoyed 5 tours over the course of 33 years.
Don was a Master Mason, raised in, and a 20+ year member of Caribbean Naval Lodge AF&AM, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
While in GTMO, he became a Dive Master and member of the S.A.M.E. (Society of Military Engineers)
He enjoyed playing the bass guitar, researching his family’s genealogy, watching football (Eagles) & baseball (Phillies), his wife’s cooking and most of all travel; which took him & his wife to many places including Puerto Rico, France, Italy, Ireland, Germany and Switzerland, where his daughter lived for 11 years. And a most memorable trip with his son to Scotland.
Preceded in death by: His father, Donald A. King Sr, mother-Mary King Nickel, and sister, Diane King Pontelandolfo.
As well as his beloved pets: Buster P. King, Franklin Buster King & Roxie McCoy King.
Survived by his wife of 48 years, JoAnn Felicetti King, son, Joshua Joseph King (Erica) and Daughter Bettiann Mary Brunner (Diego), sister Valerie Kaufmann (Dennis) and brother Matthew Nickel (Sherron)
And his pride & joys, his 3 grandchildren: Sookie Madelyn, & Eden Zoe King, and LanDON KINGsley Brunner.
A celebration of life will be held in Jacksonville and NJ.
