Donald “Don” Sterling Campbell, 79, of Douglas, Georgia inherited his heavenly reward on Friday, February 23, 2024 in HCA Florida Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida after a brief illness. Don was born on July 4, 1944 to his adoptive parents Dean and Wanda Campbell in Fairbury, Nebraska.
Don was a veteran having served during the Vietnam Era in the United States Air Force for 4 years at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in supply expediting. He began a lengthy retail career starting with JJ Newberry in the Britt’s Division and ultimately retired from Belk Department Stores after 35 years of service. Prior to his retirement he served the Coffee County community as Store Manager for Belk for 12 years. Don had a deep love and devotion to God and wanted others to experience the same love that he had. As a result, he was very involved in Cursillos in Christianity, was trained as a healing prayer minister and a lay catechist to help others encounter Jesus. Don was a member of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, in Douglas, Georgia, where he served as Parish Administrator and Treasurer until his passing.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his daughter Constance “Connie” Lee Campbell.
Don is survived by his wife Beverly Moore Campbell of Douglas, GA, his son Douglas “Doug” Sterling Campbell of St. Augustine, FL, his brother Bob Campbell (Denise) of San Diego, CA, the mother of his children Julie Campbell Albicht of St. Augustine, FL, his sister-in-law Barbara Moore of Hazlehurst, GA, and numerous nieces, nephews & friends.
Two memorial services will be held for Don. The first is on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at 4:00pm at Christ the King Anglican Church in St. Augustine, Florida. The family will receive friends from 3:00–4:00pm at the church.
The second service will take place on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Douglas, Gorgia at 3:00pm. The family will receive friends from 2:00–3:00pm in the church parish hall.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Don Campbell Memorial Youth Fund at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, located at N 523 E Ward Street/P. O. Box 1888 in Douglas, Georgia 31533.
