Dennis “Wally” Walton, age 68, a resident of Jacksonville, passed away during a traffic accident on January 6, 2020. Born and raised in Baltimore, MD to Christian and Catherine (Williams) Walton, he joined the US Navy as a teenager and travelled the world. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 33 years Janine (McCullough), his son Daniel “Danny” Walton, brother Ed, and 3 sisters: Connie, Elizabeth, and Louise. He proudly served his country and retired from the U.S. Navy, was a Master Mason, and an active member of the Nassau Moose Riders, American Legion Riders, and American Legion Post 9.
Wally enjoyed riding his motorcycle, golf, Gator football, and spending time with family and friends. Some of his favorite times were spent participating in rides along with his fellow Legion and Moose Riders.
He is survived by his daughters Kimberly (David) Parker and Kelly (Joey) Burch; his son Donald; 8 grandchildren: Ashley Dukes, Lauryn & Abigail Parker, Maryanne & Alexis Walton, Travis Smith, Chloe Walton, and Jayden Strode; 2 great-granddaughters: Lanay & Elaina Smalley; 2 brothers: Walter (JoAnn) and Christian; a sister: Cathy (Earl) Robinson; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Wally touched are invited to the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218, lane #1, from 2:00-2:30 pm on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 for a memorial service and interment. Following the service will be a Celebration of Life at American Legion Post 9, 6242 Old Soutel Court, 32219, from 3:00-7:00 pm. Please feel free to wear your Gator gear.
Wally is now reunited with his wife Janine and son Daniel riding high in the clouds. He was adored and loved by all who knew him. Wally will be missed but not forgotten. In lieu of flowers, donations in Wally’s name can be made to Boots on the Ground ; it was one of his favorite yearly charity runs.
