Dennis L Melvin

Dennis L. Melvin, age 78, passed away on the afternoon of December 19th, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. He was born April 20th, 1942, in Lafayette IN, to parents Lowell and Juanita "Ruthie" Melvin (Prather). He married Mary Agnes Melvin (Merkel) December 3rd, 1961. Dennis served six years active duty in the U.S. Navy and 27 years Civil Service, ultimately retiring from Naval Station Mayport. He and his wife also served as foster parents to several children throughout their 59-year marriage.

Dennis is survived by two sons; Joe Melvin (Michelle) and Matthew Melvin, his beloved daughter and friend; Charline "Charlie" Melvin, as well as several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Dennis is preceded in death by his wife; Mary Melvin (Merkel), siblings; David Melvin and Barbara Bailey, parents; Lowell and Juanita Melvin (Prather) and youngest daughter; Crystal Melvin. Dennis "Denny" will be remembered for his sense of humor, albeit at times inappropriate, his enthusiastic laugh and his profound love for family. His presence will be deeply missed.

Dennis will be laid to rest at the Jacksonville National Cemetery; immediate family and friends only. Details to follow. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the charity of your choice.
