Clyde Craig Sullivan

May 22, 1944 — May 27, 2020

Clyde Craig Sullivan, 76, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on 27 May 2020. He was born 22 May 1944 in Tallahassee, FL.

Craig will be remembered as a Marine’s Marine, and a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend. He possessed a profound contrast of toughness, hardened by war and the rigors of life with an affectionate, gentle compassion rarely concentrated in a single person. Yet most of all, he was ever-present. He was always there for his loved ones.

Craig was admired for his ability to do almost anything: from leading Marines in battle, to producing pieces of graphic art, remodeling classic cars, and his capacity to fix the broken - a true man of action with a spirit impossible to describe and character without compare. His stories are timeless, and his grin was infectious; everyone will recite his sayings and miss his singing: “First your money, then your clothes!”

He was a retired Master Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, who served multiple tours of Vietnam, was awarded a Bronze Star with Valor, and a Purple Heart for heroic actions in combat. Following his military service, he worked as a supervisor at Philip Morris, and later at S&D Coffee in Concord, NC.

Craig showed unrelenting courage and tenderness toward his wife of 32 years, Barri, who passed in 2007 after a painful struggle with ovarian cancer. In 2016, he lost a son, Tony, to a heart attack.

He is survived by his three children, Dana and her mother Judy, John and his wife Alejandra, and Maeghan and her husband Paul, along with eight grandchildren, Brandon, Brittany, Heather, Steven, Hayley, Lauren, Mason, and Mercy, and great-grandchild, Gabriel. Craig is also survived by his brothers, Terry, Jimmy, and Steve, and his sisters, Susan, and Pam, as well as his dear companion, Linda.

Due to current circumstances related to COVID-19, a celebration of life and accompanying memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory can be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society: http://www.nmcrs.org/ .
