Cheryl Lee Becton, a loving wife, dedicated mother, and proud grandmother, passed away on October 29, 2024, at the age of 75 in Jacksonville, Florida.
Born in Oakland, CA to Festus and Virginia Smith, Cheryl moved to Jacksonville when she was 14. She married Lewis Becton on July 29, 1966, in Nahunta, GA. Cheryl was the best friend to many, our favorite cook, a slow and avid shopper, and above all, the best mom. She considered her students her bonus family, and we heard everything about them as she loved multiple generations of children. If you were ever out with her, you likely heard “Mrs. Becton, Mrs. Becton!”
She had a unique patience that enabled her to thrive working with special needs children and they felt it. She was very proud of her time serving students, teachers and staff at Crystal Springs Elementary. Cheryl retired from Duval County Public Schools after 26 years. After retiring, she enjoyed any opportunity to volunteer at CSE.
Cheryl was preceded by her loyal and doting husband of 57 years. She is survived by her two favorite children, Robert Christopher (Brenda) Becton, Patricia (David) Launer, four grandchildren, Austin Becton, Emily (Will) Everett, Jake Becton, Kyle Becton, and two great grandchildren, Josephine Everett and Elizabeth Everett.
There will be a casual celebration of life from 11:00 to 1:00 pm on Friday, 1 Nov at the West Side Family Worship Center. Please come as you are.
Psalm 147:3, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds”
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to her favorite charity, Jacksonville’s “No More Homeless Pets” (fcnmhp.org)
