Carol Collins Johnson

d. February 17, 2022

Carol Collins Johnson went home with our Lord on February 17, 2022. She was born in November 1951 to Rupert and Belva Collins. Since her father was in the military, she was blessed to live in many places during her early years, but her family eventually settled in Lakeland, Florida. She graduated from Florida State University where she obtained a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and obtained certification as an education specialist. Carol taught in the Duval County public schools for many years, where she taught English and sponsored debate clubs that won local and state recognition. She had a passion for the children she taught and helping them learn to love reading. Carol herself was avid reader. You could always count on her to be carrying a book with her everywhere she went.

Carol loved to travel, especially taking cruises with her late husband, Bing. Carol and Bing were a beautiful example of a loving marriage. They were always aware of each other and each other’s needs. They continued to date each other throughout their marriage. There is comfort in knowing that Bing and Carol are together again in Heaven.

Carol was an only child, but she gained extended family when she married Bing. She loved all of her family, her sister-in-law, Margie Johnson, her niece Jenny, and her nephews Michael, David and Stephen. Some of our happiest memories are when we joined them on several cruises and their visits with us on all the holidays. We love and miss her so much.

She is survived by her family, sister-in-law Margie Johnson of Tennille, GA, and nephews Michael Johnson of Marietta, GA, David Johnson of Macon, GA, Stephen (Jenny) Johnson of Ball Ground, GA. She is also survived by her beloved dogs, Goodness and Mercy, whom are in the care of a loving person.

Our thanks and blessings we give to the staff and chaplain at Westminster. We appreciate their loving care and support during the years she spent in your care. We knew she was loved and well cared for in your hands. A special thanks to our dear friend, Angela, for making it possible for us to talk to Carol on zoom every week and for going above and beyond for Carol and our family.

We are so grateful and blessed to have Community Hospice provide additional care and compassion for Carol. Robin and Kristina, we want to especially thank you for the constant communication and companionship. You helped not only Carol, but our entire family. Thank you!

Carol’s Memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at 10:00am at San Jose Episcopal Church with her church family, Daughters of the King, and her Priest, Father Britt, officiating. Burial will be in the church’s Memorial Garden.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to San Jose Episcopal Church or to Community Hospice.
