Carol Ann Arendall, 70, of Orange Park, Florida passed away December 26, 2020 following a long illness. She was born in Norfolk, Virginia on June 4, 1950, the eldest child of William T. Games, Jr. and Mary Doris Hires Games, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, James Larry Arendall.
Carol lived and worked in Norfolk and Virginia Beach, Virginia until retiring to Florida after a long career in property management. She worked in various capacities for Great Atlantic Management, and later for Harbor Group Management, retiring from there.
Early in her Great Atlantic career, she was named property manager of the largest complex in southeast Virginia. Her friend and colleague, Bob Childers, remembers, “With almost 1,000 apartment units under her supervision, she was able to step in and make major changes to improve the community both from an aesthetic point of view and in terms of profitability. She was named the National Property Manager of the Year for her accomplishments at this property. Carol Ann earned a reputation as a tough but also fair and empathetic manager. This reputation stuck with her in her future endeavors in the property management business.” Others recall, “How much they learned from Carol Ann, because she didn’t let the smallest details slip. They were stronger because of her.”
Carol had a creative eye for design, and was an accomplished scrapbooker. Her beautiful and elaborate scrapbooks helped preserve memories of trips around the country and special events in her family. Those same scrapbooks will help the family recall the fun and adventures they shared with her.
She brought that same creativity and eye for detail to her workplace. She not only was a trainer and manager, she organized always successful corporate events and celebrations.
Carol loved her bling, and spent time and energy, and money, to be well put together and accessorized. She was generous in spirit, and more than once when complimented on a piece of jewelry she would remove it and gift it to the admirer on the spot.
She loved playing cards with friends and games with her family. She always was up for a party, and enjoyed time spent with others. She laughed well and laughed often. A former work colleague recalls, “She had the best laugh. I can hear it now.”
Carol leaves a family who will miss her greatly ̶ sisters Mary E. “Betty” Hunter (Hal), Connie Leonard (Ed), Peggy Webster (Larry) and brother William T. “Billy” Games III, nieces Elizabeth Webster, Tamara Dunaway, Natalie Reiherzer, Katie Leonard, Jessica Webster, Emily Leonard, and nephew Adam Webster, together with many others in the extended family.
Carol was a member of The Church at Argyle, 6823 Argyle Forest Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida, where a Memorial Celebration will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021.
