Bobbie Sue Blanchard Miller-Honour

January 26, 1930 — August 20, 2022

Bobbie Sue Blanchard Miller-Honour passed away on August 20, 2022, at the age of 92, surrounded by the love of both her son and daughter.

Bobbie Sue was born on January 26, 1930, in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1951 she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the Women's College of Tulane University and a J.D. degree from Tulane University Law School in 1954. She was also admitted to the Louisiana Bar that year. She later went on to earn her Certified Financial Planner designation. Theater and duplicate bridge became her lifelong passions while pursuing her undergraduate degree. She won the three-year Moot Court competition, and with a female partner, pleaded the final case, becoming the first all-women team to win in the history of the law school.

After graduation, Bobbie Sue opened a law partnership on Royal Street, where she began restoring an old building in the French Quarters of New Orleans. She also worked for the developer of the first "planned community" in suburban New Orleans.

In 1962, she moved with her husband and two children to Jacksonville, Florida, where she became active with the Fine Arts Forum at Jacksonville University, the Friday Musicale, and was elected to the State Board of Directors for the League of Women Voters.

Bobbie Sue was a member of the Jacksonville Community Council and appointed to the Air Pollution Control Board, where she became interested in environmental organizations. She was active for many years in both the Sierra and Audubon Club and served for ten years as elected chairman of the Environmental Control Board. In 1980 she was appointed to the State Hazardous Waste Policy Advisory Council.

While in Jacksonville, her interest grew in the historic house restoration program. She received the Mimi and Lee Adams Environmental Award several times, was hired to supervise a long term HUD grant for History Neighborhood revitalization of the Springfield neighborhood in Jacksonville, and became active in the Riverside Preservation Society for many years.

In her retirement, Bobbie Sue continued her love of travel and combined it with education. In 1989 she was admitted to the Oxford/Berkeley Program at Oxford University in English Archeology. She later obtained her PhD in International Economics.

Throughout her life, Bobbie Sue played duplicate bridge competitively and in 1997 won her Life Master in a Savannah, Georgia, tournament. Earlier that decade, she began her family genealogy and particularly enjoyed research in rural country courthouses and small town libraries. Her hobbies also included playing mah-jongg with friends and reading. On her 90th birthday, Bobbie Sue told her granddaughter, "I'd like to return to Africa, camp under the trees and watch the elephants," with her walker and all.

To say Bobbie Sue was accomplished would be an understatement, and those accomplishments listed above only scratch the surface. She was a rebel of her time. A role model. A mentor. She was loved.

Bobbie Sue is survived by her two children, Kimberly Park (Larry) and Ernest Miller (Julie), and her grandchildren, Andrew Park, Lindsey Miller, and Ernest Miller all who loved her dearly and will never forget her tenacity, charm, and grace along with her undying love for her family. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

In keeping with her wishes there will be no funeral services.
