Bettye Dykes

December 12, 1929 — June 9, 2022

Bettye Irma Jean Pattie Street Dykes, 92, passed away peacefully on June 9 th in Jacksonville, Florida.

Bettye was an active member of our community, working as a nurse, a social worker, and a teacher of special needs children.  She kept busy with many charity groups and was a devout member of the Tracy City Central Church of Christ. As a long-time resident of Tracy City, Tennessee, she graduated from both James K. Shook School and Grundy County High School.

Bettye had many talents.  She loved to draw and paint and cultivated a lovely garden in her yard of flowers, blooming trees, and fruit trees. She loved to travel, both domestically and foreign. She dearly loved animals and rescued many dogs and cats. Those who sat on the benches at church loved to hear her beautiful soprano voice.

Bettye was born in Sewanee, Tennessee, on December 12, 1929.  She was predeceased by her father, William Benjamin Pattie, her mother, Dillie Hazeline Cope, and her younger brother, William B. Pattie, Jr.

She was married to Paul T. Street, who predeceased her in 1990, and to Carl E. Dykes, who also predeceased her in 2017.

She is survived by two children, Paula Street Paseur, and Shirley Street Hunziker, four grandchildren: Jason and Joshua Hunziker, Margaret Hunziker Lawson, and Jamison Paseur; eight great grandchildren: Ella, Makenzie, Jackson, Owen, and Jacob Hunziker, and Colyn, Lucas and Benjamin Lawson.

In addition, Bettye is survived by three stepchildren, Patricia Dykes Campbell, Ronnie and Harold Dykes, and four grand stepchildren: Dustin and Casey Campbell, Lynsey and Miranda Dykes, and one great grand stepson, Gage Dykes.

Later this year we will celebrate her beautiful life with her close friends and relatives. Bettye will be dearly missed and always remembered. She loved her family, friends, neighbors, community, country, and God.
