Awilda Quinones

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Awilda Quinones, beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother who passed away on June 4, 2024 at the age of 83. Awilda was born on February 16. 1941 in Yauco, Puerto Rico. She was the daughter of Jose Quinones and Heriberta Torres of Yauco, P.R.

Awilda was born in Puerto Rico and relocated to Newark, NJ at the age of 18 where she raised six children and was a second mom to many of her grandchildren. Awilda was known best for being a hard working, responsible, very serious, strong, loving woman. She was generous, kind, and loved her family, especially her grandchildren. A devoted mother, Awilda is survived by her loving children: John Camacho, Joseph Camacho, Mayra Ayala-Medina and her husband Oscar Medina, Wilfredo Ayala Jr, and Edwin Ayala. She is predeceased by her daughter Maritza Ruiz. She was the cherished grandmother to 15 grandchildren whom she loved and treasured with all her heart, 21 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and a dear friend and second mother to many.

She will be cremated in Jacksonville, FL @ A Dignified Alternative-Hatcher Cremations. She will be laid to rest alongside her eldest daughter Maritza Ruiz at Arlington Cemetery, 748 Schuyler Ave., North Arlington NJ on August 7, 2024. Family and friends are invited to attend the interment and gravesite memorial officiated by Charles West of Charles A. West Funeral and Cremation Services, LLC on Wednesday. August 7, 2024 at noon. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone who has reached out during this most difficult time. May she rest in eternal peace
