With deep sorrow and loving remembrance, we announce the passing of Arturo Francisco Velázquez Betancourt, who departed this life on April 12, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on January 30, 1944, in Banes, Holguín, Cuba, he was the beloved son of Arturo Rafael Velázquez and Lucila Betancourt Claro.

Arturo lived a life marked by quiet strength, integrity, and unwavering devotion to his family. He graduated from Tres Amigos High School and worked for many years as a skilled industrial mechanic, always admired for his dedication and precision. A proud Christian, Arturo lived his faith through humility, compassion, and acts of service.

He married the love of his life, Nilda Victoria Pérez Hernández, and together they built a life centered around family, faith, and hard work. Arturo was a devoted and loving father to his three children: Arturo Rogelio Velázquez Pérez, Luis Velázquez Pérez, and Niurdis Velázquez Pérez—whom he lovingly taught how to ride bikes and guided with patience and wisdom.

Arturo had a gift for working with his hands and enjoyed being a handyman, raising pigs, and reading. He also shared a special bond with his beloved horse, Espuma, whom he raised and loved to ride—a relationship that brought him peace, pride, and joy.

He was a kind and attentive grandfather to his beloved grandchildren: Carlos Arturo Ricardo Velázquez, Luis Francisco Velázquez, Ramón Arturo Velázquez, Elibet Lema, Ana Cristina Velázquez, Gabriela Velázquez, Zahara Velázquez, Zamantha Velázquez, Zabelle Velázquez, and María Cruz Castillo. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Dylan Rivera, Mailenni Ricardo, Carlos Ángel Ricardo, Amelia Lema Martin Velazquez, Samuel Velazquez and Alaia Velazquez

Arturo is survived by his wife and children, as well as his cherished siblings, Lilian Velázquez Betancourt and Alberto Velázquez Betancourt. He is also lovingly remembered by his daughters-in-law Apsara Velázquez and Emilia Velázquez, and his son-in-law Carlos Ricardo Fernández.

He will be remembered always for his honesty, integrity, compassion, and sense of responsibility—a legacy that lives on through his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
