Antonio Tirol Molo, born in Tangalan, Aklan, Philippines on December 26, 1927 to Deogracias Briones Molo and Carmen Tirol, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2020, surrounded by members of his family. He was predeceased by all of his siblings, except Lourdes Mendoza, his sister. He is survived by his wife Kathleen, whom he met Ottowa, Canada, his children, Ronald, Myrna, Randolph, Marivien, Marivic, Tony and Grace, and his grandchildren, great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews and their families.
Dr. Molo was an accomplished man. He graduated from Manila Central University in 1959, passed the Philippine Medical Board examination for licensure, and interned at Women's Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Molo completed four years of Obstetrics-Gynecology training in Canada and the United States, two years general surgery training, and two years pathology training. He passed the State Medical Board examinations for licensure in West Virginia, Florida and California. Dr. Molo practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology and Family Practice at Methodist Hospital, Saint Luke's, Baptist and Humana. He was a member of the American Academy of Family Practitioners, the Duval Medical Society, the Philippine Surgeons of America, and the Philippine Medical Society of Duval County. Dr. Molo served as Chairman of the Family Practice Department at Methodist Hospital (the “Miracle on Eighth Street”), and was awarded by the American Medical Association for his continuing education. Despite the demands of his career, he was a devoted family man and friend. He always made time for his family and friends, and there are many fond memories of those times.
Tony was firm on setting a strong religious root for his family, attending mass as often as he could, and emphasized the importance of giving to and assisting the community around him and in his home in Aklan, Philippines. He loved to dance. His favorite dessert was a Filipino dessert called biko. In his later years, he enjoyed his retirement at his beach home in Aklan. There were many restful moments spent in the beach house gazebo or on his hammock. Tony alternated spending time there with time spent visiting his family in the United States and Canada. He will be missed every day, but he lives in us through his love, and he is with us in his spirit every day.
