Alvin William Bliven passed away peacefully on December 7, 2022, at the age of 93. He was one of 6 children, born to William Alvin and Lydia Ann Bliven (Monroe) of Newport, RI.
Alvin was born in Newport, RI where he spent most of his life, before moving to Jacksonville, FL in 2008. He was fondly known as "Tinkie", for the way he was always tinkering with things, from carpentry and automobiles, to just about anything. The neighborhood kids around his home of 50 years, knew him as "Mr. B". His garage was a local hangout, where he helped neighborhood kids repair bikes and such. He was fond of riding his motorcycle on the trails with them.
Tinkie served in the Korean war. After his service, he joined the local Laborers Union, where he became a lifelong member, giving 34 years to his trade. He was a master at deciphering how things worked, and repairing them. Tinkie loved his career and the many people he worked with.
Alvin (just like the chipmunk, as he would say) was a fun-loving man with a large heart, who was always joking or making funny comments. He was a lover of animals, and was especially fond of his buddy Bear, who were inseparable.
He is survived by his son Stephen (Pam) Bliven; and grandchildren Kaley LaRoche, Jacob Bliven, Rebecca Van Gundy, and David Lang, as well as 1 great grandson Carson Laroche. He was predeceased by his four brothers Burton Stafford, William Stafford, George Stafford, Ellwood Stafford, and his sister Barbara Spence (Bliven).
A private memorial service will be held at a future date in his hometown of Newport, RI.
