Alton “Big Al” Howard Godwin, 62, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away June 14, 2022, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Alton was preceded in death by mother Mary Howard Godwin Fogu, father Herman Edwin Godwin, and brother Charles Edwin Godwin.

He is survived by his son Alton William Godwin, whom he dearly loved. He is also survived by brother Richard Herman Godwin, sisters Carol Yarbrough (Ralph), Roxanne Meyers (Peter), sister-in-law Susan Godwin, nephews Cambridge and Christopher Godwin, Shawn and Chad Yarbrough, and Randolph and David Meyers.

Alton enjoyed spending time with his son Al, his dog “Sugar”, and attending the yearly Springing the Blues Festival in Jacksonville Beach.

Alton was very special, and one of the kindest persons you would ever meet. He will be remembered for his big heart and giving nature. A Memorial service will be held at a later date.
