Alicemarie K. Durney

Alicemarie K. Durney 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Ponte Vedra, FL surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

Alicemarie was born in Ashland, PA on July 9, 1931 to Joseph P and Alice (Daly) Klein.  She attended catholic school in Ashland where she excelled in academics.  After graduating high school at age 16, Alicemarie attended nursing school at the University of Pennsylvania (Class of 1952).   While working in the hospital as a student nurse she met her husband to be, Harry C Durney Jr.  They married on December 29, 1956 and settled in Media, PA.  She started her career working as an RN, with positions at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital and numerous other hospitals in the greater Philadelphia area.  She then shifted her nursing focus to doing what she loved most; private duty nursing and hospice care.

Harry and Alicemarie purchased Starcrest Marina in Wildwood Crest, NJ and she spent her summers at the marina with family and friends .  In 2016, Alicemarie and Harry left the cold PA winters and moved to Ponte Vedra, FL.  Alicemarie was a long-time parishioner with Nativity BVM in Media, PA and remained active in the catholic church when she moved to Ponte Vedra, FL.  She found joy in her family, spending time at the beach, feeding the birds, gardening and watching old movies.  Her home was always filled with the sounds of classical music and beautiful plants and flowers.

She is predeceased by her husband Harry and sister Dottie Jean Montero and  is survived by her daughters: Tina Gibson (Steven), of Reisterstown, MD; Connie Durney-Goldstein(Deb) of Ponte Vedra, FL , her grandchildren: Joshua Gibson(Casey) of Auburn, WA; Joseph Gibson (Alyssa) of Port Orchard, WA; and Jacob Gibson of Reisterstown, MD; and great grandson Rhodes.

A Dignified Alternative-Hatcher Cremations in Jacksonville, FL will oversee her cremation and she will be interred in Saint Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield, PA.
