Alfred Louis Schneider, Jr who lived to the age of 89, passed away on Sunday, March 28th, 2021, at The Windsor at San Pablo Assisted Living in Jacksonville, FL. Alfred was born on May 7th, 1931 in Jersey City, New Jersey. He was the son of the late Alfred L. Schneider, Sr and Sarah Holmes Schneider.
Alfred was raised in Rahway, NJ. Upon graduating high school, Alfred entered the United States Navy where he earned the rate of Electrician’s Mate, Second Class. He was a Korean War era Veteran.
During this time, Alfred met and fell in love with Marion Evelyn Whitesell, RN. The couple went on to marry and start a family. They would eventually settle in Holland Township, NJ to raise their five boys.
Alfred had a long successful career at Ethicon, a Johnson & Johnson company that spanned over 30 years. Starting as an electrician, Alfred eventually worked his way up to the position of Purchasing Agent. Perhaps most notable, he held several patents during his career at Ethicon.
Alfred was known for his volunteerism. Throughout his life he served as a volunteer fireman, held various leadership positions in his church, coached numerous youth league teams and in his later years could often be found putting his electrical and construction skills to good work for his community.
His many hobbies ranged from woodworking and decoy carving, watercolor painting, fishing, hunting, and enjoying life as a gentleman farmer. Perhaps his and Marion’s most memorable hobby was touring the continental United States in their motorhome.
Without question, his proudest accomplishment was his family. Al was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Marion, who passed away in 2017. He is also predeceased by his four siblings Catherine, Evelyn,
Bernice and Raymond. Alfred is survived by his loving children, sons and daughters-in-law Steven Louis and Monica Schneider of Ocala, Fl, Alan Edward and Karen Schneider of Pumpkintown, SC, Gary Schneider of Lancaster, PA, Glenn Thomas and Andrea Schneider of Cape Girardeau, MO, and Jeffrey Scott and Paulette Schneider of Jacksonville Beach, Fl; grandchildren Eric, Alexis, Maggie, April, Alex, Sarah, and Becky and eight great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
