Frances Davis Maneely, 91, died peacefully at home, Tuesday, November 9, 2010. She was born in Calhoun County, Ga. on July 15, 1919. She is the daughter of the late Rev. Homer W. Head and Gertrude H. Davis; Rev. Head died before she was born, and Frances was later adopted by L. Vincent Davis.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James M. Maneely and her daughter Lynn Maneely.
She is survived by her five children, Leah M. Wilson, Monticello Ga.; Roy E. Martin III (Mary Elsie), Columbus Ga.; Leslie Maneely, Jacksonville Beach; James M. Maneely Jr. (Eileen), Orlando and Fran Maneely, Jacksonville; she was Gigi to six Grandchildren and nine Great Grand children. She is also survived by her sister Jeanette Robinson, Albany Ga., a niece and several nephews.
Frances graduated from Montreat High School in Black Mountain, NC and attended Georgia State Women’s College and the University of Georgia.
Frances moved to Jacksonville from Columbus Ga., in 1947, after marrying Jim. She enjoyed a wonderful life as a wife, mother and homemaker. She and Jim loved to travel; one of her fondest trips was through the Panama Canal. In leisure, one of her passions was playing bridge. For more than fifty years, you could find her most Wednesdays at San Jose Country Club, playing with her longtime bridge group. As a young woman she learned to fly, making one solo flight. Frances was an avid reader and for many years enjoyed the Symphony Coffee Series.
She was a longtime member of both South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church and San Jose Country Club.
The family wishes to acknowledge and express their appreciation for the exceptional care and love given to their mother by caregivers, Karen Green and Christy Kulik.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday November 20 at South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church, 2137 Hendricks Avenue
