J. Ray Permenter Jr.

Ray Permenter, 83, passed away on October 5th, 2010 following a brief battle with cancer. Ray was born and raised in Jacksonville, graduated from Landon High School in 1944, served honorably in the United States Navy during World War II and attended the University of Florida where he was awarded a Doctorate of Jurisprudence in 1951. Ray practiced law in Jacksonville and had business concerns in the Caribbean and South America. He was an entrepreneur and treasure hunter. He will be remembered for his passionate spirit and creative imagination, which inspired adventures of which most can only dream. Ray has placed his full trust in Jesus Christ and has now claimed the greatest treasure of all.

Ray is the son of J. Ray Permenter Sr. and Ethel Hightower Permenter. Ray is survived by his children, Jennifer Roland (Joseph), Nancy Blake (David), Lisa Travis (Steve), Jay Permenter (Stacey), of Jacksonville and David Permenter (Klara) of Hungary; step children Cathy Cobb, Mary Jane Barnes, Carl Nelson and Stephanie Antoinette; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also mourning Ray’s passing are his two sisters Marianne Hibbard and Nancy Goode of Ponte Vedra and many nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his sister Martha Gerber. We also wish to acknowledge Ray’s long time friend and associate, Vernon Montrichard.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at First Christian Church of the Beaches, 2125 Oceanfront and Seagate, Neptune Beach, FL (904) 246-2010.
