Maxine Peterson Feeney died September 16, 2010 in Jacksonville, Florida, after a short illness. Maxine was the only daughter of Henry and Eleanor Peterson, born May 18, 1921, in Hanna Wyoming. She graduated from high school in Hanna at age 16, being awarded that school’s first academic ‘letter’. Maxine went on to Park College in Parkville, Missouri, being rewarded her teaching certificate. She returned to Hanna where she taught in Carbon County schools.
After marrying the love of her life, Thomas J. Feeney, she and Tom attended the University of Wyoming and earned their Masters Degrees. Ultimately settling in Southern California and having started a family, Maxine pursued her career as an English teacher at Eisenhower High School in Rialto from 1961-1972. Upon retiring, Maxine, Tom and daughter Noel Ann moved to Comox, British Columbia, Canada. After 13 years there, they decided to return to Southern California, settling in Temecula.
Maxine lost her beloved Tom in 1988. She, her daughter, Noel Ann, and Noel Ann’s daughters Tara and Tammy decided to join forces and combine their households. This partnership with her daughter lasted for 22 years. During that time, Maxine helped Noel Ann care for the girls, often driving “Bam’s Taxi”; taking the girls to sports events, shopping, and myriad places young girls need to go. Noel Ann often said Maxine was “the little woman” who ran the household. Maxine’s love, devotion and unselfish help to Noel Ann and her daughters will never be forgotten.
Maxine was truly loved and will be missed by her entire family. She is survived by her daughter, Noel Ann Price granddaughters Tara Vollmin, Tammy Price, and great granddaughter, Mekiah Vollmin. Also grieving her passing are her niece, Janet Peterson, her nephews Doug Peterson, Jim Peterson and his wife Jane, and Tom Peterson.
Maxine will be lovingly remembered by her great niece Kristen Lyon, her husband Bill and their daughter Genevieve; her great nephew Gregor Peterson, his wife Kristina and their children Jane Claire, Cooper and Oliver; and her great nephew Daniel Peterson, his wife Dianne and their son Grant.
She will be missed by Noel Ann’s companion Jack Grant, Tammy’s fiancé Jason Winberry, and Tara and Tammy’s father John Price.
Maxine will join her husband, Tom, at later date at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Maxine’s name may be made to your local Meals-On-Wheels or Hospice program.
