Gerald Alan Moreau, 38, passed away in his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, June 27, 2010. He fought a courageous battle against brain cancer. Jerry was born on October 6, 1971 in Rockford, Illinios. He had spent the last thirteen years living in Jacksonville, Florida. He worked as a Senior Network Systems Engineer at the Florida School for the Deaf & Blind in St. Augustine, FL. Jerry loved football, especially the Virginia Tech Hokies and the Jacksonville Jaguars. When he was not working, he enjoyed watching movies, playing video games and time with his children. In December, he completed 2 Computer Technology degrees from Florida State College at Jacksonville.
Jerry was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Gerald Alan Moreau, whom he was name after, his paternal grandmother, Annette, and his maternal grandfather, Ernest Bailey. He is survived by his wife, Karen, and his 4 children, Joseph, Jonathan, Amber and Megan, his father, Thomas (Joanne) Moreau, his mother, Sue (Don) Nystrom, 3 sisters, Mindy & Angee Moreau, and Danielle (Jason) Descoteaux, 1 brother, Brian (Marina) Mercer, 5 nephews Tre, Darian, Luc, Dylan, and Cameron, 3 nieces Kelsey, Koral and Riley, his maternal grandmother and numerous aunts and uncles and other relatives. He will also be missed by his friends who had the opportunity to be close to him. Jerry had a big heart, a keen sense of humor and strong political opinions.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Shepherd of the Woods Lutheran Church, 7680 Southside Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32256 with Rev. George L. Johnson officiating. Internment of his ashes will be at a private family ceremony at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Northeast Community Hospice or the Jacksonville Humane Society.
