Baker, Eric Lee Baker “Boats”, 54, Jacksonville, FL, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on June 5, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. Eric was born on May 7, 1956. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mauricette Roux Baker. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Bonnie Storey Baker, son Christopher R. Baker (Irina), and grandson Anthony J. Baker, all of Jacksonville, FL. Also his father, Ralph J. “Mike” Baker of SC. , brothers, Dominick Baker (Debbie), of Rockhill, SC. and Ricky Baker of Orange Park, FL. Upon graduating Fort Sherman High School, Naples, Italy, Eric joined the Navy as a Boatswain’s mate and served on FFG’s, Page, Morrison and Fahrion. During his tour on the Morrison, Mayport, he met and married his wife and made Jacksonville his home. His civilian career was spent in the supply industry for naval contractors. He was a longtime dedicated employee of Specialty Marine, Mayport. Eric loved the outdoors whether he was grilling, riding his Fat Boy Harley, listening to classic rock, counseling the neighborhood children or just watching the grass grow with a beer in his hand. Although his exterior was hard and rough, there was always a soft spot in his heart. An outdoor memorial service will be given by, Pastor Thomas Patrick Jr., on June 19, 2010, at 10am at 1751 Sprinkle Drive, Jacksonville, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family. The family wishes to extend their love and appreciation to their family, neighbors, friends, his business colleagues and Hospice at Shands (nurse Tonya) for their love, support, talents and time. “The world according to Eric” will be deeply missed!
