Dorothy Whitney Corwin
Dorothy Corwin died peacefully at hospice on May 21, 2010. She was 81.
Born in Boston on December 16, 1928 to Col. Theodore and Grace Whitney, Dot was a mirror twin. While in Columbia College, she met her future husband, Don, on a blind date at his fraternity (Phi Gamma Delta) house. Together they raised four children. Dot was very involved in their lives; she was a Mom first and foremost and considered it her most important calling in life. Being involved in the life of the First Presbyterian Church of Southampton also gave her great pleasure.
Dot wanted to let everyone know that she was humbled by love and care given to her by nurses, doctors and wonderful family and friends. She also wanted us to realize she needed people and needed to be generous. She loved to give presents. Dot found her “core” in nature and animals. She found great comfort in her furry companion “Jazzy.”
Predeceased by her husband Don Corwin and daughter Carol Diane Corwin, Dot Corwin is survived by her sister Carol Warner and her husband Dr. Robert Warner; a daughter, Susan Mitchell and her husband Chuck Mitchell; sons Jim Corwin and Ray Corwin; a granddaughter, Kathleen Mitchell, and many nieces and nephews.
In honor of her request, there is no funeral. The family will have a memorial celebration in Southampton on a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dot Corwin’s name to any charity of your choice would be appreciated.
