Deborah Lusk

December 17, 1948 — May 13, 2010

Deborah "Debi" Lou Lusk, born December 17, 1948, in Cinderella, WV, passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2010, at the age of 61. Debi is survived by her father, Maurice W. Lusk II, and mother, Dorothy L. Lusk, both of Jacksonville, FL. Debi's older brother, Maurice "Marcy" W. Lusk III, lives in Atlanta, GA, with his wife Helen. Her younger sister, Robin G. Lusk, also lives in Jacksonville, FL. Debi played a significant role in raising the two children of her older brother, Gregory "Greg" D. Lusk I, who passed away in 2000. Greg's daughter, Theresa L. Stephens, lives in Belcamp, MD, with her husband, Jeff, and three sons, Ricky, Ivan, and Ryan. Greg's son, Gregory D. Lusk II, lives in Jacksonville, FL, and Aunt Debi played a very important role in the lives of his four children, Gregory "Dean" D. Lusk III, Lucas D. Lusk, Abigail L. Lusk, and Megan K. Lusk.

Debi was a favorite aunt to the four children of Marcy and Helen. Cindy Gilbert lives in Atlanta, GA, with her husband, Don, daughter, Savannah, and son, Bailey. Maurice "Mark" W. Lusk IV lives with his wife, Carol, in Nashville, TN, with their two sons Maurice "Reece" W. Lusk V and Ryan. Michael Lusk also lives in Nashville, TN, with his wife, Stacey, and their three children, Mason, Michaela, and Noelle. Like her sister Cindy, Tara Jernigan lives in Atlanta, GA, with husband, John, and daughter, Abigail, and is expecting another daughter soon.

Debi graduated from Richwood High School, Richwood, WV, in 1966. She attended West Virginia University and graduated from Morris Harvey College with a degree in English and Secondary Education. She taught at Horace Mann Junior High in Charleston, WV, and moved to Cocoa Beach, FL, in 1981. She taught English, Drama, and Science for Brevard County Public Schools for 25 years. Debi loved theater, and as a talented vocalist, dancer, and actress, she was an active member of the Charleston Light Opera Guild, of Charleston, WV, in the 1970s. She was also a playwright, and some of her plays were performed by the Children's Theater of Charleston, WV. She helped to mold new generations of talent as the Drama Club Director for Brevard County Public Schools through the 1980s and 1990s, winning numerous awards. Debi corresponded with the legendary actress, Katherine Hepburn.

In addition to her talents in the fine arts, Debi was a talented seamstress and could work magic with yarn, crocheting numerous beautiful afghans and clothing items for loved ones. Debi was a loving and generous soul who would give her last dollar to help a friend or loved one. She was always there with a shoulder to cry on, words of wisdom, and a plan of attack. Possessed of a sharp wit, Debi loved to laugh and never failed to see the humor in any situation. We will all miss her witty observations, clever turn of a phrase, and penchant for correcting our grammar. The world is a much more solemn place without the sound of her laughter to lift our spirits. Debi was infinitely loveable and we will all miss her more than words can say.
