Joseph Everett McCracken, 81 passed away February 23, 2010 with family at his side. Mr. McCracken was born April 29, 1928 in Richmond, Va. to F. Vernon and Eula Everett McCracken. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Miriam Rowe; and brother F. Vernon McCracken, Jr.
Everett is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Lucille McCracken.
He was loved, honored and respected by his six surviving children: Stephen McCracken (Tierney), John McCracken, Sarah Henderson (John), Judith Brooker, Joellyn Piercey (Roger), Patricia McCracken and their mother Ellyn Kingsley.
Other survivors include children of Lucille: Terese Benham (Mark), Laura Evans (Ray), Eugene Rocheleau (Beth), and Charlotte Briglin; his siblings: Betty Jean Cosby, Byron McCracken (Helen), Carol Cone and her daughter Rose Ann Chronowski; as well as 23 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Everett attended Benedictine HS and Virginia Polytechnical Institute. He honorably served in the Army during the Korean War in a stateside anti aircraft unit. He worked as an inspector for Reading Railroad, a Clerk at the Elections and retired from Sears with 25 yrs service. He volunteered as a Boy Scout leader. In retirement he volunteered as a Certified Sea Turtle Watch Tech and at Our Lady of the Sea Catholic Church in New Smyrna Beach, Fl. In Jacksonville, Fl, he was a member of the Mandarin Senior Center and developed a beautiful Rose garden.
Everett will be missed and honored by all who knew him.
A Memorial service officiated by Father Daniel Cody will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 6th 2010 at St. Josephs Historic Catholic Church, 11730 Old St. Augustine Rd, Jacksonville (904) 266-5422. A reception will follow.
