Doris Jensen Coker

September 22, 1920 — January 24, 2010

Doris Jensen Coker, born Sept. 22, 1920, in Branford, FL, daughter of Zelo Waldemar and Mary Maude Adair Duensser Jensen, passed away peacefully Jan. 24, 2010 after a long and fruitful life. She was a proud graduate of Andrew Jackson High School, class of 1939. Doris is now reunited with Alex, her high school sweetheart and dear husband of 66 years, her parents, and her three sisters, Aline, Ernestine, and Elsie. She is survived by her sons, Alex Barclay (Marsha) and Byron Keith (Connie), her grandchildren Kelley Coker Strong (Tim), Adam Barclay Coker (Elisa), Clay Jensen Coker, and Kyle Byron Coker, and five great grandchildren: Alexi Leigh Strong, Katie Joy Strong, Amy Elizabeth Strong, Alexander Cameron Coker, and Audrey Jensen Coker. Doris will long be remembered for her green thumb, avid interest in plants, and love of all creatures great and small. She was fascinated with history and genealogy and found great pleasure in Western literature and movies. She and her husband, Alex, were proud of their association with the Mandarin Presbyterian Church. Our family expresses special gratitude to Doris' longtime caregivers, Debbie Howard, Pat Addison, and Amanda Brown, for their love, care, and faithful attention. Extra thanks also go to Dr. Margaret Johnson at Mayo and the invaluable Aqua team from Hospice, especially Suzi, her wonderful nurse and friend. In keeping with Doris' wishes, services will be private. Our family thanks those who have sent much appreciated thoughts and prayers during her illness. Kindly make donations in her memory to Hospice of NE Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville 32257.
