Janet Clarissa Aitken

Janet Hartman Aitken, 73, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away Monday December 7, 2009. She was born in Bloomsburg, PA to parents James J. and S. Lucille Hartman in 1936. She graduated from Bloomsburg High School, Bloomsburg, PA in 1954 and earned her R.N. degree from the Geisinger School of Nursing, Danville, PA in 1957. Upon graduation, she worked as a Surgical Nurse at Duke University Hospital. For 18 years she worked in Nursing at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD and later worked for the CNA Insurance Companies in Rockville, MD in marketing and advertising for the company’s health care lines. She transferred to the Jacksonville, FL office in 1995 from their Rockville, MD business unit and retired in 2000.
She will be remembered for the love she had for her children Chip and Jennifer and her brother Bob. Her sense of style and class were known by all who met her. She was very grateful for the many hours of time her friends and neighbors spent with her over the past several years. She will be missed greatly by all those she touched and inspired many with her strength and fortitude.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her son, John W. Aitken, Jr (Chip) and daughter-in-law Christine Aitken of Windsor Mill, MD, daughter, Jennifer Aitken Carroll and son-in-law Chris Carroll of Orlando, FL, brother, Robert N. Hartman, and sister-in-law Connie Hartman, Bloomsburg, PA, nephew Dr. James J. Hartman, San Francisco, CA.
