George Theodore Scardasis, age 89, peacefully passed away on 07/10/2017 in Community Hospice of Jacksonville. He is survived by his five children, Katherine S. Crowell (Wayne), Theodore George Scardasis (Judie), Karen Diane Wood (Steve), Timothy Johnston Scardasis (Lisa), and Terrill Robert Scardasis (Sally), 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was the oldest of four children and is survived by his brother Mike Scardasis. He is preceded in death by his parents, Katherine Athanason and Theodore G. Scardasis, also by his brother John Scardasis and his Sister Nellie Theopulos.
George was born on December 28, 1927 in Inverness Florida and graduated from Citrus High School in 1945. He entered the Navy in 1945 and served until 1949. Upon discharge from the Navy he attended University of Florida and worked for the Corps of Engineers until his retirement.
George had many passions in his life which included playing his trumpet, fishing, hunting, cooking, photography and revisiting his childhood stomping grounds, the sponge docks of Tarpon Springs and Inverness. He played for several pep bands including the Gator Pep Band and the Bulls Pep Band. He collected cookbooks from all over and was locally recognized for his culinary abilities.
A memorial service is scheduled at the Jacksonville National Cemetery at 11:00 am on August 28.2017 located at 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Fl. 32218 officiated by the Reverend Ken Olsen. Immediately following the ceremony a reception celebrating the life of George Scardasis will be held at The Riverside Presbyterian Apartments, located at 1045 Oak Street, Jacksonville, Fl. 32204.
