Vera Evans, 81, of Hilliard, Florida, was welcomed into Heaven on Saturday, June 24, 2017. Born in Lake City, Florida, on October 22, 1935, Vera graduated from Mason City School and then moved to Jacksonville, Florida. She met Bill Sanders and they married on July 19, 1958. She was employed by General Adjustment Bureau and Cramer Johnson and Wiggins until she retired.
Vera lived in Jacksonville 40+ years before moving to Hilliard in 2006. She loved gardening, watching all sports, and especially the Gators! In later years, she became an avid birdwatcher. Vera's first grandson, Travis, nicknamed her "Hema" as a toddler and she was then forever known as Hema to everyone. She loved her grandsons so much; attending sporting events, school programs, and everything a grandma does for her grandchildren. Her great-grandchildren, Brody and Lylah, added much new happiness to her life. She has been a member of Garden City UMC since 1960.
Vera is survived by daughters, Susan Sanders; Sharon (David) Parker; a grandson, Travis (Candace) Parker and great-granddaughter Lylah; a grandson, Brett (Danielle) Parker and great-grandson Brody; brother, Joe Evans of Lake City, Florida; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her husband, William David (Bill) Sanders; father, Edward Vance Evans; brothers, Lonzo Evans, Earl Evans and Pomeroy Evans.
Vera will be missed by her loving family and friends who have so many fond memories of her. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at the Garden City United Methodist Church on Dunn Ave. in Jacksonville with the Reverend Alan Patz officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Garden City United Methodist Church. A Dignified Alternative-Hatcher Cremations is handling the arrangements.
