Richard (Dick) James Buck, 76, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 17, 2017. He was born on December 17, 1940, to Alice Aurellia (Boucher) and Gordon Willis Buck. He is predeceased by his parents and his twin brother Robert Jay Buck (Judy). He is survived by his wife, Janice McCorvey Buck; another brother, John Oliver Buck; stepchildren John H. McCorvey, Jr. (Karen) and Ashley McCorvey Myers; step-granddaughters Anna Grace McCorvey, Avery Livingston Myers and Camelia Katherine "Cookie" Myers; and niece, Susanne Buck Howard (Barry). He was a longtime, active member of Avondale United Methodist Church.
Dick enjoyed a long, rich and varied career with CSX during which time he developed numerous scientific, engineering and financial computer models and applications. He was most proud of a prestigious national award from The Institute of Management Science.
When health problems cut his CSX career short, he looked for volunteer opportunities to use his skills, experience and time productively. He was nominated by the City’s Retired Senior Volunteer Program for the Mayor's Annual Senior Citizen's Volunteer of the Year Award in 2001. Volunteer activities included tutoring disabled children, teaching Sunday school, mentoring at the Mayo Clinic Lung Transplant program, and serving at St. Vincent's Hospital.
Dick had an adventurous spirit and a passion for boating, a challenging game of scrabble, crossword puzzles, books and lively dinner conversation on current events with family and friends.
The family will receive friends and family from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, May 23rd in the community room (1st floor) at the Park Plaza Condominiums, 505 Lancaster Street, Jacksonville, FL.
