Virginia Dale Shipes Davis

November 10, 1940 — April 8, 2017

Virginia Dale Shipes Davis of Jacksonville, FL entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 8th, 2017 in Jacksonville. Dale was born in Waycross, GA to A.C. “Buck” Shipes and Hazel J Shipes. She grew up in Lakeland, GA and graduated from Georgia Southern University. She had a long career as a social worker, and was also a homemaker. Dale was active in the Jacksonville Garden Club, was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church, and was an accomplished tennis player. She was a former Georgia high school state tennis champion, and winner of Jacksonville ladies doubles tennis club championships. Fiercely devoted to family, she was often at family members sporting events and other activities. As a Georgia native, she loved the Georgia Bulldogs and particularly Georgia-Florida weekend. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob Davis, her mother Hazel Shipes, and her father Buck Shipes. Dale is survived by sons Chip Davis (Stacey) and Dan Davis (Beth), both of Jacksonville, FL, sister Patsy Hasty of Jacksonville, FL, and brother Lou Shipes (Judy) of Houston, TX. Six grandchildren (Tucker, Kinley, Brooke, Bryce, Brantley, and Brynn.) Nephew Ben Hasty, who was a devoted caregiver in her later years, and many other nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. There will be a celebration of Dale’s life on Tuesday, April 18th at 4:00pm, with a reception to follow, at Mandarin United Methodist Church, 11270 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32223.
