Evelyn A. Gambill

March 23, 1936 — January 16, 2017

Evelyn Ann Federspiel Gambill, 80, passed away on January 16, 2017 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born on March 23, 1936 in Louisville, KY to John M. and Anna M. Federspiel, both deceased. She graduated from Presentation Academy High School in Louisville in 1954. She had lived in Jacksonville since 1987 and was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where she was involved in volunteer work with The Mandarin Food Bank and Mandarin Meals on Wheels II for 20 years. She was a loving stay-at-home mom and always enjoyed family gatherings, dancing to “oldies” music and playing bridge. Evelyn will be missed. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Edgar H. Gambill, two daughters, Karen McKinney (Patrick) and Susan Bertrand (Marc); two sons, Jeffrey Gambill and Gary Gambill (Lara); seven grandchildren, Ryan Perry, Blayne Bertrand, Jessica Bertrand, Jeremy Bertrand, Ashton Gambill, Megan Gambill, and Jayden Gambill. She is also survived by one brother, John N. Federspiel (Susan). In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by a grandson, Cory Bertrand and stepmother, Mary Federspiel.
The family wishes to thank the many friends, neighbors, doctors, and nurses for their care and support over the past few years. We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to Evelyn’s devoted caregiver, Ardath Simpson, as well as the staff of Community Hospice for the kindness and care.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Historic Church located at 4124 Loretta Road, Mandarin, FL 32223, at 11:00 a.m. on January 27, 2017. Celebrant will be Father Thanh Nguyen. Internment in St. Joseph’s cemetery will be followed by a celebration of Evelyn’s life in the Cody Center.
