James Allan Grinnan, 88 of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on October 20, 2016 at Community Hospice. He was born August 25, 1928 in St. Petersburg, Florida, the son of Gertrude and Charles Grinnan. Mr. Grinnan met Mary Sue Walker during college and he graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After working for six months he served as an Army 1st Lieutenant of artillery in the Korean War. Upon returning from Korea they married December 1952.
He leaves behind wife Mary Sue Grinnan, son Allan (Mindy) Grinnan of Jacksonville, FL, daughter Mary Ann Grinnan Durham, NC; son Glenn (Maria) Grinnan Riverview, FL, sister Bobbi (Jack) Kenney Austin, TX; Sister-in-law Johnnie Ruth Smith Live Oak, FL, grandchildren Jennifer (Derek) Lyons Gainesville, FL; Matthew Grinnan Jacksonville; Eric Boren Durham, NC, Emily Boren Arlington VA, Joe (Nicole) Grinnan Pensacola, Katie (Andrew) Palmer, Charleston, SC; John Grinnan (NYC); nephew Scott (Eileen) Harmeling McKinney TX, niece Bonnie Bisher, Austin, TX; nephew David (Mary Lou) Smith, Cary, NC; nephew Dan (Stephanie) Smith, Lawrenceville, Ga.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 31, 2016 at 11 am with a reception following at South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church on Hendricks Ave, Jacksonville, Florida with Dr. Bruce Hedgepeth officiating.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church or Community Hospice of NE Florida.
Mr. Grinnan will be laid to rest with a private military ceremony at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
