Rob Rice, beloved husband, father, family man, and friend, passed away peacefully on the evening of April 3rd, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in 1965, Rob graduated from North Penn High School in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, in 1983. He earned a BA in economics in 1988 from Millersville University in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. In 1996, he married his high school sweetheart, Jill, who lit up his life with love, laughter, and adventure. Their children, Sean and Jackie, are a testament to their love and dedication to one another.
Rob was a successful businessman, working in pharmaceutical sales for Merck, Biogen, The Medicines Company, and finally UCB Pharma, where he was recognized for his professionalism, drive, innovation, and incredible work ethic. He was a treasured colleague and valued team player in every position he held.
Beyond his work, Rob was a talented and much-loved lacrosse coach, introducing young men in the Jacksonville community to the game of lacrosse, and tirelessly teaching “the basics” of scooping, passing, shooting, and cradling. His compassion as a coach made a difference in many lives.
One of his favorite vacation spots was Ocean City, New Jersey, where he spent many summers in his youth and where he returned often with his family. He was a passionate Eagles fan; he loved and cheered for his “home team.”
Rob’s devoted family includes sisters Barb and Sallie, and brothers Wayne and Tom. In addition, he leaves a large extended family and many friends who treasure the time they had with him, and who forever will remember his bright smile, his laughter, and his joy in being a wonderful husband and Dad.
Rob fought his aggressive cancer with the same strength, dignity, and tenacity in which he lived. Free from pain and illness, Rob is now soaring with the angels and watching over the many who were fortunate to call him family, friend, or coach.
Services will be held at the Crosswater Community Church, 211 Davis Park Road, in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida on Friday, April 15th at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests donations in Rob’s memory to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, an organization that brought comfort to Rob and his family.
Rob’s memory will be cherished by those whose lives he touched, and his legacy of loyalty, compassion, and dedication will live on in his beloved wife and children, his large and loving family, and his many friends, forever.
