Elizabeth "Betsy" Rousch Matthews

Elizabeth Ann (Betsy) Rousch Matthews, 62, passed away at home in Jacksonville on September 1st. Betsy was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma by her loving Mother Margaret Ikeda Rousch. She attended the University of Tulsa and enjoyed varied professions including automotive and furniture sales and was also a certified Dental Assistant. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the Sanctuary Choir and loved all forms of music. Betsy was a gifted designer - supervising the installation of her dream kitchen and her in-laws master bath remodel. She was an excellent cook/chef, owned over 100 cookbooks and was known for her elegantly tasteful dinner parties – taking great pride in her role as the gracious hostess. Betsy was widowed from her husband Ian Murray – and is survived by her husband Jeff Matthews - and her brother Les Rousch, her sisters from Tulsa - Deborah Ward Ingstad and Sandi Wilhite, her nieces Piper Turner and Summer Jenkins and nephew Matthew Ward. She loved her special Jacksonville friends – neighbor Patten Moore and choir & bridge partner Judy Fackler. Betsy loved all animals – especially her German Shepard, Magic – and rescued Moma cat Belle, kittens Callie, Blanca, and Spot - and feral cat Grey. Betsy’s Memorial Celebration will take place Tuesday, September 8th at 11AM at First United Methodist Church, 225 East Duval Street. A reception immediately following the service will take place at the Matthews’ family home at 4125 Lakeside Drive. In lieu of flowers, please make any memorial gifts to First Methodist - Betsy Matthews School Supplies Fund.
