Thomas D. Friall, Jr.

Thomas D. Friall, Jr. was born January 28, 1926 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Mr. Thomas D. Friall, Sr. and Mrs. Lottie Sumpter Friall. He was one of three children; sister Mrs. Thomasina Friall McFarlin who also preceded him in death and brother William Sumpter of Jacksonville, Arkansas.

“Jupe” as he was called by family and friends, was educated in the Duval County public schools in Jacksonville, FL, before moving to Baltimore, MD where he attended culinary school. He was drafted into the United States Army and served in World War II. After the military he returned to Jacksonville, FL and began his career at McKesson & Robins and after retiring, he later operated an upholstery business.

Thomas was united in holy matrimony to Gwendolyn in 1952 and this union was blessed with three sons, Thomas D. Friall, III (who preceded him in death), Kevin Douglas and Eric Scott. He was a lifelong active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he was a member of the first Confirmation Class conducted in 1956.

Thomas D. Friall, Jr. departed this life on December 31, 2014 at the age of 88. He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife, Gwendolyn S. Friall; children, Kevin (Angela) Friall and Eric (Andrea) Friall; granddaughters Annisha Friall and Camille Friall; brother William Sumpter (Carmen); nephews, Kernaa (Sandra) McFarlin, Jr., Yoland Macon, Willie (Eloise) Limbric, Jr., Roy (Jewell) Christopher, James Scott, Donnell (Antoinette) Ford, Nathan (Rosemary) Love, Bruce Limbric, Graylyn Christopher, Donell (Joyce) Butler, James (Carolyn) Singleton; nieces, Adrianne (Larry) King, Olga (Bruce) Williams, Sharon (Ronald) Holland, Shirley Brill, Vanessa Williams, Regina Scott, Patricia Mainor, Harriett (Gerard) Chavis, Jacqueline Pittman, and Cotis (Willie) Allen; and a host of other sorrowing relatives and friends.
