Curtis Mclemore

Curtis McLemore, 88, passed away Saturday, September 13th. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Luralene, his sons Steve, Mike (Terry), and David, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, two sisters, and many loving extended family members. Curtis was born in Trafford, Alabama, in 1926, the ninth of twelve children. Curtis enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944, and had a naval career spanning twenty years. He was a World War II veteran, and received many awards and commendations for his service. Curtis boxed on the Navy boxing team, and later coached boxing, as well. Following his retirement from the Navy in 1964, Curtis was a civilian Navy employee, working as a fuel distribution system inspector until his retirement in 1987. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was also an avid gardener, and a long distance runner well into his late seventies. He was a member of St. Catherine's Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, and over many years served the church in various capacities including Layreader, Vestry Member, and Warden. Curtis was also a Mason, and a member of the Morrocco Temple in Jacksonville.
A memorial service and reception will be held on October 3, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Catherine's Episcopal Church, 4758 Shelby Avenue, Jacksonville, FL 32210, followed by a committal service at 2:30 pm at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
