Vernon Rio

Vernon Rio, age 89, was promoted to Glory September 16, 2012. He was born in Jacksonville, FL on January 1, 1923, the son of Vincent and Alma Rio. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II then later retired from the Florida Times Union. Mr. Rio was a long time member of Edgewood Avenue Christian Church. Mr. Rio is survived by his son, Hal Rio; his daughter, Pam Rio, also 5 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 53 years, Betty Rio; his son, Tommy Rio and all of his brothers and sisters. A service in celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday September 20, 2012 at Edgewood Avenue Christian Church 1041 Edgewood Ave. S. Jacksonville, FL 32205 with Pastor Mitch Skelton. In lieu of flowers, family prefers memorial donations to Edgewood Avenue Christian Church at the address above.
