Ruth "Tomi" Clara Thomas Odenwald

Ruth Clara Thomas Odenwald, 90, passed away on April 29, 2012 in Jacksonville, Florida. Tomi, as all of her friends knew her, was predeceased by her husband of 60 years Ward F. J. Odenwald, Jr.

Tomi was born in Louisville, Kentucky on May 27, 1921 and grew up in Miami, Florida. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida State College for Women in 1943 and received her Masters of Education from the University of Alabama. She raised her family in Huntington, Long Island, New York. Tomi was an avid golfer and had the good fortune of hitting several hole in one’s and winning the Ladies Golf Championship of Merry Wood Country Club on Long Island in 1963. She was a member of the Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association of Long Island for many years. Tomi enjoyed abstract painting, writing, gardening and traveling.

She is survived by her three children: Kay Odenwald, Ward (Arlene) Odenwald, Betty (Geoffrey) Founds; and four grandchildren: Ward and Alexandra Odenwald, Thomas and Read (Rebekah) Founds.

A memorial service will be held at Westminster Woods on Julington Creek on May 10, 2012 at 11AM. (904-287-7300)
