Charles A. Kroetz, age 87, of Jacksonville, FL., passed from this world, on February 3, 2012. Born in N.Y.C., N.Y., to Charles and Mathilda Kroetz (dec.), Charles was a member of "the greatest generation".
A proud veteran of WWII and alumni of Stuyvesant H.S. and Columbia University School of Engineering, he served his country during wartime, then returned home with a soldier's sense of discipline, dedication and volunteerism, to set about the work of building a solid foundation for living a life - for himself, his family and his community. Charles was a life-long learner and strong believer in the benefits of a quality education and the application of a strong work ethic. These virtues coupled with good health and good opportunity for achievement, Charles believed that most all things were possible. His successes in life, the flourishing of his family, and the betterment of the communities he lived and worked in, are testament to these values. Charles will be remember well by all who knew him, for his love, his loyalty, the joy in a game of tennis well played and a satisfying crossword puzzle with his morning coffee.
Charles is survived by his wife of 61 years, Yvonne, his children, Madeline, Matthew (Donna), Heidi, and grandson, Joshua. He is predeceased by his sister Paula and grandson, Michael.
A memorial for Charles will be held at a future date, followed by internment at Jacksonville National Cemetery. Memorial arrangements can be found at, and remembrances for Charles can be posted on-line at, www.adignifiedalternative.net.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Charles's name to Community Hospice of N.E. FL. Foundation, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jax, 32257.
