Melvin Dale Carey

Melvin Dale Carey, 89, of Jacksonville, FL, died January 26, 2012.
Dale was born May 24, 1922, in Dawn, MO, the son of Hazel Lillian Goodhart and Adolphus Barclay Carey. He was the oldest of his beloved brothers, Donnell Eugene and Lowell Lew, both deceased.

Dale honorably served his country during WWII as a Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He was a waist gunner on a B24 bomber, flying 24 sorties out of Foggia, Italy. After his discharge, he returned to Missouri and attended Chillicothe Business College where he met Catherine Louise Warren. Dale and Catherine were married on April 16, 1948 and moved to Florida the same year.
After 42 years in the insurance industry, Dale retired in 1989 from Commercial Union Insurance Company. He cherished the many friends and relationships made over the course of his career.

Dale is survived by his wife Catherine, son Richard Barclay of Jacksonville, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Randolph Dale and Kathy Ann of Duluth, GA.; son David Warren and his partner Jose Figueroa of Mt. Dora, FL.; grandson, Matthew George of Marietta, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A service celebrating Dale’s life will be held at 2:00PM Saturday, February 4th at Arlington Congregational Church, 431 University Blvd N Jacksonville, FL 32211.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Arlington Congregational Endowment Fund.
