Lucius Gartrell Milam, III (Gooch), 70, of Tupelo, MS, beloved husband, father, and avid outdoorsman went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 14th, surrounded by his family. He was born December 6th, 1940 in Tupelo, MS to his parents Lucius Gartrell Milam II and Margaret (Joyner) Milam. He graduated from Tupelo High School in 1958 and received a bachelor degree from Vanderbilt University in 1962. After graduating, he went to boot camp at Parris Island, SC and later served four years as a Marine Reservist. He started his five decade investment career in Nashville, TN with Equitable Securities as a bond/stock broker in 1965 and later moved to Jacksonville, FL. In 1971 he partnered with Alex Brown and Sons (Now UBS Financial Services) and managed their branch office for more than 20 years Jacksonville, the longest tenure of any manager at that time. Gooch was active in the community, serving on the board of City Rescue Mission, the Salvation Army, and the St. Johns Presbyterian Church Endowment Committee. He helped start Quail Unlimited in Northeast Florida and was also a member of the Downtown Rotary. He was a devoted Jaguars fan. Gooch leaves behind Broward B. Milam, wife of 42 years, brothers Kenneth Ewing Milam (Joy) , William Hughes Milam (Ann), daughters Robinson Dubose Milam, Joyner Milam Beasley (Bart), and his son, Lucius Gartrell Milam IV, and granddaughter, Ceil Bennett Beasley as well as many nieces and nephews. Gooch will be remembered by many for his quiet devotion to God, generosity, humility, quirky sense of humor, and love of hunting and fishing. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm November 18th at St. Johns Presbyterian Church 4275 Herschel Street, Jacksonville, FL, 904-384-4501. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the International Multiple Myeloma Foundation 12650 Riverside Drive, Suite 206 North Hollywood, CA 91607-3421, City Rescue Mission 426 S. McDuff Ave Jacksonville, FL 32254, or St. Johns Presbyterian Church.
