Edwin C. Phillips, 87, passed away on October 6th, 2011 and is now at peace with his beloved wife, Mary. Ed was from Kentucky, the only son of Cecil and DuRelle Phillips. He was a World War II veteran of the Merchant Marine, and worked for the railroad most of his life, starting at Union Station in Chicago, then with the Chessie System in Huntington, WV, and finally for CSX in Jacksonville, FL, where he retired. He loved classical music, was passionate about history, wrote poetry, and was a life-long Louisville Cardinal fan. Ed had belonged to the Urban League, was a Lion’s Club president, a member of the Unitarian Church, and supported many charitable organizations including the ASPCA and Habitat for Humanity.
Ed leaves behind his three “girls”, Deborah Lleyn Phillips and Laura Nell Phillips of Jacksonville, FL, and Cathy (Phillips) Opaluch of North Falmouth, MA, as well as his grandson, Ian Patrick Opaluch, also of North Falmouth, MA, all of whom love him and will miss him dearly.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Buckman Bridge Unitarian Universalist Church, 8447 Manresa Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32244 (904) 276-3739.
