William G. Weyer, Sr.

William G. Weyer, Sr., went to be with the Lord on July 22, 2011. Born April 15, 1937, in Jacksonville to Jack and Frances Shore Weyer. He attended Murray Hill School (Safety Patrol), and Robert E. Lee High School before attending the University of Florida where he became a Life Member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia; son, Billy (B. J.); daughter, Lynne Kruse (Rob); and grandchildren Robbie and Jennifer Kruse, and Will and Michael Weyer. His six siblings included Jack, Terry, Shirley, Betty, Bob, and Nancy.

When he became an Eagle Scout at the age of 14, his family was recognized as the first family in Florida to have four brothers earn that distinction. He was a successful salesman with Duval Lumber and Supply until 1975 when he and his brother Bob started Weyer Custom Homes. They were members of the North East Florida Builders Association. His son Billy joined them and they were referred to as the “grandfather of Fruit Cove” for building homes when it was only woods.

Bill was a member of Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, taught 8 -9 year olds in Sunday School, participated in numerous mission trips to Romania, the Czech Republic, East Germany, Hungary, etc. Mission trips were the high points of his life. He was an avid fisherman, water skier, snow skier, golfer, seine net fisherman, cook and supporter of the Florida Gators. First of all he loved his family. He had a good sense of humor, and was an honest and generous man. He strived to be a blessing to everyone he met.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 3:00 pm at Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church, 4001 Hendricks Avenue. The family will receive friends following his service at his home. Anyone who wishes to honor his life may make contributions to Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church or Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
