Gertie Poole, 56, of Jacksonville, FL passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2011. She was born June 1, 1954 in Paramus, NJ, the daughter of Joseph and Charlotte Ferreira. She was a devoted Navy wife, beloved mother, avid volunteer in her community association, and most recently, an award-winning author, despite her blindness. Her two published novels, Realm and Magic Trash, bring joy and inspiration to all who open them and marked the beginning of a bright literary career cut far too short. All who met Gertie were struck by her fierce independence, generosity and kindness, her sense of humor, and an amazing personality. She was preceded in death by her mother, Charlotte Ferreira, and her brother, Nick Ferreira. Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Jim Poole; daughter, Tiffiny Poole; father, Joseph Ferreira, all of Jacksonville, FL and sister, Karen Mockel of Summerfield, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in her name to the Florida State College Foundation for the ILAB (Independent Living for Adult Blind) who changed her life and that of so many others: 632-3237
